The sloping site with great vistas of Chapmans Peak & Table Mountain, provided the perfect setting for a double storey house with expansive glass allowing for endless views of the mountains. The house faces due north, and as such makes good use of the typical north facing house principals, warm in winter and cool in summer. The main living area’s sliding doors were planned so that the entire ground floor could be opened up towards the timber deck, the eco pool and the indigenous garden.
The first floor accommodates the bedrooms and garage under a well insulated sloping roof of which the spruce timber beams are the main feature.
The southern side of the house faces into the wind and limited door and window openings protect the house against hash wind and rain. Several sustainable principals were incorporated into the design, such as underfloor slab insulation, double glazing, solar water heating, LED lighting throughout and water storage tanks.
